Those infections related to health care (IRAs) are one of the main problems of the health system because they cause an increase in health spending and detract material and human resources, and even result from a direct mortality. One of the origin of IRAs causes pollution is in the patient environment, where the surfaces are germfree very soon after cleaning, assuming vector transmission by direct contact. Nanobiomatters BactiBlock® S.L. uses nanotechnology to incorporate silver ions in a wide variety of products in order to reduce the growth of bacteria and fungi on the surfaces where they are applied.
Studio
Doubleblind pilot study conducted at the Hospital Nisa 9 de Octubre in Valencia, where the effect of Antimicrobial Protector BactiBlock® 24h in reducing bacterial contamination in a medical environment was investigated. BactiBlock® was applied to the multifunction switches randomly selected 8 rooms, leaving as a control another 8 rooms that were not treated. Microbiological controls using contact plates after 24 hours of treatment was performed. Sampling was also carried out before treatment. A total of 96 samples, 16 in the pretreatment control and 80 during the test (40 treated and 40 control samples) were taken. Results are expressed as the mean count of colony forming units per plate (CFU / plate).
Results
The initial checks showed no significant differences between the two groups (treated and untreated) before starting the test (p> 0.05). The deUFC / plate average was 98.13.
Conclusions
The results show that the application of Antimicrobial Protector BactiBlock® 24h switches on the multifunction rooms, keeps these uncontaminated excellently after 24 hours (87.6% bacterial reduction, p <0.001). Using BactiBlock® allows effectively and permanent control of contamination in surfaces, even the most septic of the patient environment .
