Those related to health care (IRAs) infections are one of the main problems of the health system because they cause an increase in health spending and detract material and human resources, and even result from a direct mortality. One of the origin of IRAs causes pollution is in the patient environment, where the surfaces are germfree very soon after cleaning, becoming a vector of transmission by direct contact. Nanobiomatters BactiBlock® S.L. uses nanotechnology to incorporate silver ions in a wide variety of products in order to reduce the growth of bacteria and fungi on the surfaces where they are applied.
Researches in areas of high health risk
A) Obstetric Surgery Center: doubleblind pilot study conducted in a university hospital study in tertiary referral, where the effect of Paint BactiBlock® in reducing bacterial contamination in operating rooms of obstetrics was investigated. BactiBlock® was applied on the walls and ceilings of rooms, leaving as a control another room that was not treated. Surface pollution controls were performed using bioluminescence, using the System CleanTradeTM 3M. Results are expressed as the mean of relative light units (URL). The results reveal a high pollution reduction (67%) on surfaces treated with BactiBlock® (Figure 1). Furthermore, a presence control of two pathogens (A. baumannii and P.aeruginosa) using contact plates was performed.

B) Ophthalmology Surgery Center: Study of the level of bacterial and fungal contamination of the painted with paint BactiBlock® ophthalmology operating room surfaces. BactiBlock® was applied to the walls and ceiling of the operating room. Microbiological controls, both bacteria and fungi, using contact plates were made. Results are expressed as the mean count of colony forming units per plate (CFU / plate). The results show contamination levels well below that required in high- risk areas (<25 CFU / plate) (Figure 2).
